The Subtle Knife
I was so glad that I had the last book on me (this trilogy really pulls you in) when I finished this one so that I could start right into the last one. The first book is a little more drawn to a close where this one left me hanging wanting more. I was glad that I had all three at once. I don't know what I would have done without that!
When I started it I was somewhat disappointed that Lyra wasn't the vivacious, impulsive, courageous little girl I loved in the first novel. Between just growing up and what I would assume would be an incredibly disorienting and scary transition she seems a little more timid, but on a more positive note also more cautious. Although her role is still important, I really liked the slightly broader range of characters that this book followed.
