book

Microserfs

This is one of those books that I'll think of something someone said, wonder who I was talking to, and then realize it was one of the book characters. It's not really about computer geeks, it's really about obsessive compulsive people who just happen to write code and communicate better over the computer rather than face to face. Plus, somewhere beneath the amusing geek pondering and Generation-X listlessness, there's actually some really nice relationships.

Plus, there's this hysterical little bit where all the girls in the room are discussing why there haven't been tampons made for "chunky days" and the guys in the room are frantically IM-ing each other asking "can you believe we're hearing this?" You know what? I think I actually liked most of the female characters in this book. That's impressive.

I think I read this at least once a year. Favourite book ever. I wish they'd hurry up with the movie version!
