The Historian
The story opens in Amsterdam in 1972, when a teenage girl discovers a medieval book and a cache of yellowed letters in her diplomat father's library. The pages of the book are empty except for a woodcut of a dragon. The letters are addressed to: "My dear and unfortunate successor." When the girl confronts her father, he reluctantly confesses an unsettling story: his involvement, twenty years earlier, in a search for his graduate school mentor, who disappeared from his office only moments after confiding to Paul his certainty that Dracula--Vlad the Impaler, an inventively cruel ruler of Wallachia in the mid-15th century--was still alive.

awsome book- but a little too less blood for a real dracula book --> nice lecture, a little scary but written with too less heart and feeling for language | |

A bit like unravelling spaghetti, only to discover someone else has taken all the meatballs. An interesting and complex read, but I couldn't help feeling that the smoke and mirrors were hiding... not very much at all. Worth reading, if you're into either vampires or dan brown type mysteries. | |

It was readable; but I was not "carried away" by the story or story telling. The premise was good - but I felt the characters were not developed in a way that that made me care about them, understand why they cared about each other... or get scared for them. |
