Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)

Eragon, by Christopher Paolini is a book about a young man who discovers a dragon's egg while hunting in the wilderness, and this discovery changes his life.

He is almost immediately flung into a whirlwind of events that make him one of the most legendary -- and sought after -- person of his time. Pursued by the evil King Galbatorix, he must run for his life to save not only himself, but the entire kingdom.

All-in-all, this is a good first novel, but is nothing remarkable. The storyline is decent, while somewhat cliched, and the characters are three-dimensional enough to get the reader interested.

There are blatant Tolkien and McCaffrey undertones, however, which make this book a bit fantasy cookie-cutterish, but it does hold it's own among more modern fantasy such as Harry Potter.

To make a long story short, I'd recommend this book to young adults, or if you're just looking for a decent fantasy read that isn't too in-depth.
