Eldest (Inheritance, Book 2)

I must say I was impressed. This series is still standard fantasy fare, but this volume felt much more impressive than the first. Here Paolini ventured into sometimes suprising territory, avoiding a lot of fantasy cliché. The characters felt more real, more nuanced and complicated. Still, this is something I would have appreciated more at a younger age. But Paolini had me staying up late turning pages just the same.

Eragon got kind of . . . emo in this one. I really hope the last book is just one giant bloody battle, because I'm a little tired of seeing Eragon crying all the time and thinking about the lives of ants.
