Sister Freaks : Stories of Women Who Gave Up Everything for God

I rarely throw out books, but this was one that I had no desire to keep. I received it as a prize for walking and raising money for charity; at first I thought it was perfect because I am a Christian and am interested in gender issues. But I was soon proved to be completly wrong. It is contemporary Christianity at its worst. In a typical chapter she described an abortion protestor who had been put on trial for her actions. She was aquitted, which is fine, but the last line of the short story says: "As Kirsten left the courtroom, one of the pro-choice jurors looked into her eyes, smiled and winked." That one line offended me more than I can imagine. I guess I had not realized that it was so popular in contemporary Christianity to undermine the very core of our judicial system. The author apparently thinks that such collusion is something to be proud of. Is that what contempoary Chritianity is all about? Are we all so shallow and sneaky?
