The front flap of the book intimates that Gilbert will find a way to change his life, yet his planned actions are vague and disappointing, as we never get to see them carried out, though the reader is left with the assurance that it will happen. I actually wanted to see Gilbert's sister, Amy, find a way to a better life, some way to shake it up, but the final comments about how she's good at dancing are a weak way to address this. Gilbert feels stuck, but we soon realize that the people he's being weighed down with are also being weighed down similarly, and yet the reader is able to remain hopeful. This book is interesting right from the beginning, although at times I wish the author would just get on with it. Each character is unique, and everything is very clear. ...
