The Paradise War: Song of Albion Book 1
The first book in this trilogy by Stephen Lawhead is a slow starter, initially set in modern Britain, the book introduces the two main characters, and while the author aims to give an impression of complacent normality to the opening segments, I found it hard to get into at first.
However this is quickly set aside as bizarre events begin to happen, and the reader quickly realises that this glimpse at a mundane existence is quickly spiralling into an otherworldly nightmare.
