I might as well not have read this because I stupidly sidestepped most of Kadare's intentions and projected my own stuff into the reading, i.e. your life/job/future can be ruined by your own passivity and failure to act, no matter how favorable or open the circumstances, you have to actually play the hand you're dealt rather than let it play you, and so on. Anyone who has read this and was able to look past the end of their own nose should email me because I would love to salvage the experience. **
