The Story of Language

The whole bit at the end about doing away with separate languages and instating a new, international one really put me off. Are the benefits of there only being one language in existence really worth the loss of the cultural insights that can only be found in languages foreign to us?

And wouldn't only one language be boring, anyway? "Variety is the spice of life."
