The planet in question is known as Obsidian, and while practically worthless in its own right, is central to accessing a gateway to untold riches and supremacy within a future human empire. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of several iindividuals, switching back and forth between a broad cast of characters, representing all sides of the conflict. The novel will appeal to those who enjoy miltary SF with a liberal dose of politics. Features strong character develop, and a no-holds-barred look as the consequences of war -- including graphic scenes of death. While not a light space opera, the book is also no dry polemic. An entertaining, thought-provoking read, this is a prequel of sorts to the popular online short novel "Zero-Option," written by the same author and released under a Creative Commons License....
