I searched in used bookstores for two years in vain before happening on a copy at the Elliot Bay Bookstore in Seattle, WA for the miraculous price of $24.95 (softcover . . . another hundred or so could have netted me the first-edition hardcover, but I was 17 and didn't realize how much disposable income I had).

I can look at this book for hours and still be amazed, inspired, fascinated, and enraptured.

It is gorgeous. I am still seeking an affordable copy of it's successor, Pool Light (that, or a higher salary)....

I had heard a lot of buzz about it, but knew very little of the plot beyond what you can make out from the cover: a boy stuck in a lifeboat with a tiger.

It turned out to be so very much more than that. I dare say I love this book....
