Description: After my own reading of the book I did find the book better than the movie in that it was aAfter my own reading of the book I did find the book better than the movie in that it was a lot richer and I ended up liking the characters a lot more. They were a lot more real than in the movie, which is to be expected I suppose.

So much of the book was internalised by one character or another I can see the difficulty of trying to adapt it for movie theaters. The movie took the aproach of having a lot more interplay between the men in these women's lives, and while yes they were apart of these stories I felt like it changed the whole point of the story. It also made the Vivian and Sidda seem a lot more shallow and overly dramatic instead of vivacious, whole women with unfulfilled dreams, broken hearts, fears and the wealth of history and character that makes them in the novel so enjoyable. Although the movie has a reputation of being a "chick movie" about understanding mother-daughter relationships, I thik the book does a much better job actually doing this sort of relational examination. In the end I liked them both, though for different reasons. I will still recommend the book for a thought provoking read about how these relationships shape our lives and how to really live life to the fullest....

Description: I greatly enjoyed this chance to look at a more rounded perspective of the same charactersI greatly enjoyed this chance to look at a more rounded perspective of the same characters seen in the Ya Ya Sisterhood. Rather than being mainly from the perspective of just one or two characters, this book takes turns rotating through everyone in the family, including the two african american adults who helped with their farm/house. I particularly found it interesting how different some of the connotations about events mentioned in both books seemed....
