Miller obviously took one too many creative writing courses because his language is so descriptive that it often overshadows the story. Though the story is about a poet so must be somewhat poetic, Miller resorts to cliche and cute turns of phrase too often, perhaps to compensate for an unoriginal (though fun) plot. His plot, in fact, is actually a conglomeration of myths (Joseph Campbell would have used this novel, undoubtedly) with which the reader is most likely familiar, yet they are joined together in a satisfying if simple manner. The moments of beauty almost justify the over-the-top moments. ...
