After many years of hearing about how Mr. Carter was a bit simple in his thought, I enjoyed it enormously. I felt in particular he was able to balance the calling of his church and faith with his understanding the nation and diversity. It was a very good book, and illustrated to me that not all Americans are of the classical variety reflected in other nations.

I think perhaps because there was too much fantasy and not enough science fiction; and the authors tried to slip in too many dry little puns. These did not make it more fun, but were distracting. I did not get a good sense of the plot bedause other things kiept interfering. I will try it again as a regular book.

I listened to it driving home to Toronto. The first story was an early version of the Dune story, and focused on some of relationships in the books. It has been a while since I read it, and this was a a great re-introduction. Unfortunately, the other chapters were snippets of other scenes, so they did not build nearly as well without intimate knowledge of the books, which I've lost over the last decades. But it did stir me to re-read the old books and read the ones I've not yet discovered.
