Some of the "horror" is exactly the type that I really don't like, and even skipping these, I enjoyed the book overall. Most of the "horror" stories (and I used quotes purposely) challenged my definitions of the word and expanded my thoughts. Several of the stories were excellent.

However, I currently live one block from Jane & Finch, near a school that could be McLarens. Although I see, and have seen all my life, incidents such as the ones that are described iin the book, they are by far the only ones. My high school, one of those nearby, is now also known as the only Toronto High School where a student has been fatally shot. Although there are certainly many such incidents and examples, it would be wrong to read this book and abandon these people to their fate. Although the book does help communicate some of the difficulties of living here, it neglects to point out that there are many positive things about living in such an ethnically diverse neighbourhood.

An idealistic young feminist is drawn into the corporate world of greed and luxury and is confused yet determined not to be sucked in. It was very good.

It was a fun romp aound what is accepted and "moral", challenging each. There were a few elements that illustrated it as a bit dated in setting, but because I lived through that time I enjoyed it.

I'm not much into mysteries, but it kept me interested. I particularly liked some of the reflections of the age of the book, and the fact that it was written in another time. I'm not sure if people would react differently today or if we just think people would reract differently.

It would seem that I'm still worried about what I've heard about Mr. Sullivan than what I've read by him. This book was well thought out and covered both sides: which might be why I enjoyed it.
