This is a great book to enter into a discussion about race and social problems through an intense personal narrative. The subplots which effect this character’s decisions influence us all. It is man vs. society/ child vs. parent/ man vs. self


I would use this in an English class or maybe a cross-curricular effort but the historical and social elements aren’t really strong enough for another subject area. Also, the intensity of the anger and race issues could be great to spark discussion but the main character is more existentialist than most students would probably relate to.

The characters pretty much drew you in but the concept of emotional rollercoaster within this story is hard to believe. of course whatever rocks the individual's boat i guess.

Barrack however had grown liking upon Tiryl and tempted to do upon her as what she had done to him. ...
