Description: It's worth reading the book just for Ted Williams. They probably romanticize the guy, well,It's worth reading the book just for Ted Williams. They probably romanticize the guy, well, a whole lot, but it's a portrait of him painted largely by his three closest friends, plus it's the glory days of baseball and the Red Sox, and you have to romanticize it just a little. But, in addition to the Ted Williams, there's also Bobby Doerr, Johnny Pesky and Dom DiMaggio, who you don't hear a whole lot about, because he was little and wore glasses, and oh yeah, his brother played for the Yankees for a while back in the day and had a little 56 game hitting streak.
They reminisce about various personal and baseball moments, and one of the bone crushing Red Sox World Series losses is covered in quite a bit of detail, but amazingly enough, without getting boring or weighed down in statistics. The entire book is that way, it flows together really nicely, and is actually a pretty light read. Plus, Ted William's tirades are entirely too amusing....
