Roo has been freed from the weight of his crimes by the state, and using all his resources Roo is determined to become Krondors pre-eminent business tycoon. But it's a long way from the bottom to the top and Roo has his own fair share of enemies along the way.
The narrative and style of this novel reminds me most of the Empire series, also by Raymond E. Feist. Roo's merchant exploits and coops are pulled off with such cunning and deviousness that it is a pleasure to read on, delighting in Roo's amassing fortune and feeling horror as we watch the gambles that don't pay off. This is a well concieved story and stands on it's own among the Serpentwar saga set, well worth the read....
